Larkfield Leisure Centre Roof Works

VE1J01731The Leisure Pool & Teaching Pools at Larkfield Leisure Centre are now closed until late May 2020 to allow for the removal and replacement of the Pool Hall polycarbonate roof. The Fitness Pool and all other areas of the building remain open and the Centre’s full activity programme continues as normal.

The building is now 40 years old and requires some attention. The closure provides Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council (TMBC) with the opportunity to not only replace the roof with a multiwall structured polycarbonate which will deliver improved heat retention, but to make further improvements to the building, such as replacing the boilers, improving the air handling and upgrading the Leisure Pool with new features.

PROJECT UPDATE FROM TONBRIDGE & MALLING BOROUGH COUNCIL

"Since the last update, work on site has been progressing apace, especially in the plant room where the boilers and ventilation systems are located. The two boilers which are being replaced have been removed and a temporary boiler has been installed to allow the centre to continue to provide hot water for customers. The new ‘modular’ boilers have been delivered to site and are in position, with work now taking place to alter pipework, install new boiler flues and install new heating pumps.

The weather in the run up to Christmas certainly made working on the roof challenging! Work has now started on installing the new roof, which will consist of polycarbonate panels, much like the old roof, but the new ones will be much more energy efficient in terms of keeping heat in the building."

"Work on site has been progressing well over the last few weeks. The two protected walkways have been completed, allowing customers to safely move between reception and the changing areas, Gym and Spa and between the wet change area and the Fitness Pool.

The complicated ‘birdcage’ scaffold in the Leisure Pool Hall has been completed and has allowed the contractor to safely access the high level ventilation ductwork so that it can be removed. External scaffolding has also been put in place to allow the contract to access the roof areas. Over the next few weeks work to replace the Leisure Pool Hall roof will commence.

We will be posting regular updates as the works progress so please check this page for the latest news."

The tmactive Swim School continues to operate a full programme in the Fitness Pool. Pool platforms are being used to reduce the depth of the water around the pool and additional Level 1 swimming assistants are in lessons to provide support to teachers and children.

The Centre’s Gym, Group Exercise Studios and Immersive Spin Studio, Sports Hall, Spa and Café also continue to operate as normal. There will be times during the works when some areas of the building will need to close temporarily, full details of these closures will be communicated in advance.
