Open Message to members from Chief Executive, Martin Guyton

Firstly, I hope you are all staying safe, staying active and wherever possible staying at home.

We have set up a Just Giving campaign as a direct response to customers who have indicated that they wish to continue to support us during this period of enforced closure. As well as providing Direct Debit payers with the option to continue with their payment, this page offers others the option to make a one-off donation to help ensure we can maintain our outreach, GP referral and dementia sessions when we re-open.

tmactive is a not for profit, independent charitable leisure trust with no shareholders. As such any surplus from our activities are reinvested into the facilities and services we provide. We offer services to nearly 700,000 visitors each year and employ over 400 local people. Under normal circumstances we receive no direct funding from the Council or from any other source. You, our valued customers provide all our income.

I am in touch with many other leisure operators up and down the country as we try to manage a situation where our income has been reduced overnight to zero and yet we still suffer considerable costs. We have furloughed 390 staff and are able to claim 80% of their salary back through the Government Scheme, but our business is under serious threat in terms of medium-term sustainability.

I should point out that our future sustainability includes the absolute desire to continue to provide and expand services such as our GP referral scheme, dementia sport and community activity that reaches out to the least able to pay or access our services and I pledge that every penny we receive through your generosity will be channeled at maintaining these services. The very first beneficiary of any receipts will be the NHS Blood Donor sessions that continue to run at the Angel Centre despite the current closure that we would be able to fund directly rather than make a charge to the NHS.

Very Best Regards, Martin
